Ventilation system
The ventilation system in a home is one of the most important parts of an HVAC system. It delivers and cycles air throughout the home. One important thing to remember about the ventilation system is to ensure the ductwork is properly sealed. The air ducts should also be cleaned on a regular basis. Proper ventilation prevents moisture problems and mold growth. It also controls the amount of humidity in a home.
Energy savings
Up to half of a utility bill can be from heating costs. If the HVAC system is older than 15 years, it will not be as efficient as units being produced today, and it will cost more to run. Winter months can have drastic swings in temperatures. To save on the utility bill, adjust the thermostat to the weather patterns.
Maintenance
The easiest way to maintain the HVAC system is to replace the filter every 60 to 90 days. Also have the system inspected by a service professional at least once a year. Ideally, the HVAC system should be inspected before the spring and winter seasons begin.
Replacement
Just because a unit is malfunctioning doesn’t mean it needs to be replaced. HVAC systems last for many years, and if the system is only a few years old, it may just need to be serviced. If a system needs to be replaced, consider installing a programmable thermostat to give more control over the system.
Safety
In addition to having the HVAC system inspected by a service professional, make sure all carbon monoxide and smoke detectors are up to date. Change the batteries annually and be sure they are tested monthly.
