Aire Serv® Has Tips to Get Ready for Spring Weather
WACO, Texas (Feb. 12, 2015) – Six more weeks of winter may have been predicted, but winter will be gone and spring will be here before too long. Parts of the U.S., especially in the south, are already experiencing spring temperatures. Homeowners everywhere will be shutting down the furnace soon and Aire Serv has tips to make sure it is done right.
Change out the Filter
It’s important to remember that most home air filters should be changed every 60 to 90 days. The HVAC system will have to work harder to force air through an old filter. The new filter should be placed with the arrows facing in the direction of the airflow. Not putting it in the right way will cause the airflow to be obstructed and the HVAC unit will not be as efficient.
Vacuum
Periodically vacuuming and cleaning around the furnace will keep dust and small debris out and away from the HVAC system. The area should be cleaned as the seasons change. Taking the front panel off the HVAC system that covers the filter and cleaning its grates will cut down on dust being taken in by the filter.
Test Detectors
When shutting down the furnace for summer, homeowners should check and change the batteries in the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. The functionality of the detectors should also be tested. If any of the detectors fail the function test, homeowners should have them inspected or replaced.
Test Thermostat
The thermostat is one of the first ways homeowners will know if there is a problem with the HVAC system. Homeowners should move the selector switch to the various settings, heat, cool, and off. The HVAC system should respond to the selected setting. If the thermostat fails to respond, a service professional should be contacted to diagnose the problem.
